The forum will be followed by an information session (4:00 - 5:00 PM) with Drs. Chew and Basolo about the Capstone requirement, especially the Professional Report and the Practicum.

The planning community is cordially invited to a showcase of new talent as students from Irvine's rising Master of Urban and Regional Planning Class of 2013 deliver presentations on their capstone Professional Reports.

Ocean Acidification: Science, Law, & Governance

The Toward a Sustainable 21st Century series is sponsored by the Newkirk Center for Science and Society, the School of Social Ecology, and the School of Law.

The program will focus on issues surrounding ocean acidification and its major impact on the West Coast of the United States. The emphasis will be on options for preserving the precious aquatic habitat and the threatened shellfish industry. The problem is global, but the threats are compelling and urgent in the states of Washington, Oregon, and California.

Victor Pineda has worked closely with the U.S. Department of the Treasury, World Bank, United Nations, UNESCO, UNICEF, and National Advisory Committees in developing programs and policies that include youth with disabilities as equal stakeholders in development. Victor was the recipient of a National Science Foundation (NSF) innovative research grant, a Fulbright-Hays Fellowship, the Thomas Jefferson Award, the Tom Clausen Fellowship for Business and Policy, and the AAPD Paul G. Hearne Leadership Award.
