Virginia Parks to join Social Ecology as chair of Department of Planning, Policy and Design

Virginia Parks, a professor in the Urban and Environmental Planning Department at Occidental College, will join the School of Social Ecology as chair of the Department of Planning, Policy and Design. She will start July 1, 2017.

Parks studies labor, employment and inequality in cities. She has published papers on topics such as the geographic variation of racial wage inequality and African American public sector employment. Currently, she's working on an online interactive Low-Wage Atlas of the U.S.

Before joining UCI, Parks was the Madeline McKinnie Endowed Professor at Occidental College, and Associate Professor in the School of Social Service Administration at the University of Chicago. She earned her PhD in Geography and M.A. in Urban Planning at the University of California, Los Angeles.
